Creative Courses

This page contains links to courses in creative activities which we are developing with a First World War theme. It will be regularly updated: please check regularly so you don’t miss out on some fantastic opportunities to be involved in some great artistic work.

  • Drama course, September-October 2015, leading to the production of Our Street: 1915 – video of our play
  • Songwriting course, Voices from the Ruins led by the wonderful Bethany Elen Coyle. Some of our Songs provides links to recordings from songs produced by the workshop.
  • Video editing course to make a short documentary – FREE course delivered by brilliant tutor Graham Smith.
  • Graphics and Layout for Heritage Publications – FREE course delivered by leading graphic artist Tommy Anderson.  Come and learn the principles of graphics and layout relevant to a  heritage publication.  Skills covered include Design for Print; Photomontage and Typography; and Post Production and Pre-Press. The course will be delivered in 3 sessions on Monday afternoons at WEA Regional Office, Portland Terrace, Newcastle-upon-Tyne NE2 1QQ:
  • Painting course at New Hartley Community Centre, Sat 25th and Sun 26th July 2015, 10am – 4.30pm: Paint a life model dressed in authentic WWI uniform.   • Additional WWI-related sessions ran in Newcastle and Northumberland-based Creative Writing courses and the Knitted Gardens project.
